Authors – Review Requests
Dear Authors,
I am ALWAYS happy to do a
review for your book here on my blog, Goodreads, Bookbub, and Amazon. This is
ALWAYS FREE of charge. I will also share the review on Facebook, Instagram, and
Twitter. In the reviews, I do add an “about the author” section with links to
your social media accounts (if you’d prefer I didn’t; let me know). I also add
a link to the purchase page on Amazon as I have an affiliate account.
I do ask that the book be a
physical copy as I cannot do eBooks. I try to limit
my screen time to the reviews, social media posts, and my own writing. Besides,
there is NOTHING quite like the smell of a fresh book. I don’t even own an
e-reader.
And, I can often take some really good pictures with the book 😊

These are my preferred genres
(and you can always go through my blog to see what I read):
** Christian Suspense (think
Natalie Walters, Colleen Coble; Love Inspired Suspense, Thomas Nelson/TNZ
Fiction books/authors, Revell titles/authors)
** Christian Romance (Love
Inspired, Bethany House, Thomas Nelson/TNZ Fiction books/authors, Revell titles/authors)
** Clean/Sweet Reads (Harlequin
Heartwarming; authors such as Nancy Naigle
from St. Martin’s Griffin)
** True Crime (Ann Rule, Leslie
Rule)
** Historical Romance (Sarah
Sundin; Regina Scott)
I have read and enjoyed the
more recent works of Debbie Macomber (Cedar Cove Series; Promise, Texas; Rose
Harbor Inn; Blossom Street).
I do ask that the book’s
details/content are disclosed so I can see if this is a book I would pick up at
a library book sale, purchase, or borrow. I don’t mind some sexual talk or
scenes, but I do ask that they not be explicit in nature.

I am not into:
** BDSM
** Erotica
** Vampires or other Mythical
Creatures (while I have read the Twilight Saga, that is about where my interest
end.s)
** Descriptive Violent acts told in gory detail (murder is to be expected in some suspense novels; sexual assault being mentioned is all right)
** Fantasy
** Dystopian (I may have two of Margaret Atwoods' titles, but I am not interested in reading something that is depressing or terrifying)
Another reason for the
disclosure is so that you can get your book to the reader that it is suited
for. I have given five (5) star ratings for books, and I’ve given two (2)
stars. No matter how bad a book was – I can’t give one (1) star reviews. Those are cruel. I
want to be as fair to you as well as potential readers. So, if I anticipate it
will be less than three (3) stars, I will save us both the heartache. In
addition, I want to be able to finish the book to give you the review it
deserves.
I have been part of several
launch teams and I understand the time (as well as the passion) it takes to
write a novel, to want to see it succeed, only to have it go up in the flames
of a bad review. While bad reviews also help the author to figure out where to
improve, I’m often wondering if the review has to do more with unrealistic
expectations by the reader or someone who doesn’t know the intended audience.
Genre ignorance is something I see a LOT of in Goodreads reviews. It is, to me, out of control. Many times readers DO NO UNDERSTAND that Biblical Fiction means about bible characters or characters living in that time, thus the standards then are WAY different than what they are today. WWII standards are far different as well. Again, this is why it is important that your book ends up to the readers it is marketed to.
I also ask a reasonable time
frame to review as I usually have my months planned out between ARC requests
and other groups I am with as well as my own stuff.
I will gladly review it within one
month prior to release time to generate interest; or within 30-45 days after receiving the book as sometimes I do have others booked that far in advance.
