The navy prepared him for anything…except an instant family.

When navy veteran Gage Westbrook promised to look out for his late best friend’s son, he never imagined he’d bond with the baby boy. And he definitely didn’t plan to fall for Connor’s gorgeous temporary guardian, Skye Tomlinson. But weighted by guilt for the accident that took Connor’s dad, can Gage find the courage to forgive himself and embrace the chance at a family?

Thank you in advance to the author, Heidi McCahan and JustRead Publicity Tours for providing me a complimentary review copy. A positive review was not required. All words and thoughts are my own.

“Their Baby Blessing” is your standard Harlequin “happy-ending romance” book. This one is from the #LoveInspired (heartwarming, inspirational romance) genre, and incidentally the first one of the genre I’ve read.

At the heart is Gage Westbrook, a Navy veteran, who promised his late friend to watch over baby Connor. Watching over Connor, temporarily, is his mother’s cousin – Skye.

Skye’s plans in life didn’t include being a mother. She had a wonderful career in Denver. But, she’s temporarily in Merritt’s Crossing to not only help her mom with the furniture while she recovers from surgery – but Skye is also Connor’s temporary guardian with his mother off to parts unknown.

When Gage enters Skye’s life, she is skeptical after being hurt before and doesn’t want to open herself up for that. But, while she enjoys caring for Connor, she needs help with the little boy – and her family’s furniture store needs a miracle.

Gage’s Navy training didn’t prepare him for an instant family, and his own childhood past prevents him from wanting to get involved too much, despite an overwhelming attraction to Skye. In addition, he feels responsible for the accident that claimed the boy’s father, Ryan.

Another complication is the entrance of Ryan’s parents – they want Connor, and have money to put up a fight. And, eventually Connor’s mother, McKenna, returns to claim him.

I won’t spoil the ending. It is a cute, predictable ending as most of them are. This one, being “Love Inspired”, also infuses some religious overtones that might bother certain readers. It isn’t preachy, but doesn’t shy away from God and his influence in our lives.

It was a delightful, two day read. I’d describe it as a perfect rainy day on the couch read.

Definitely looking forward to more of this author’s work and might seek out her other novels.

4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
